Proposal for a EU Directive on soil health – have your say till 3 Nov. 2023

On 5 July 2023, the European Commission proposed a new Soil Monitoring Law to protect and restore soils and ensure that they are used sustainably. The European Commission has opened a public consultation on the Soil Monitoring Law to which everyone can submit feedback. The public consultation is open until 3 November 2023 (midnight Brussels time).

Proposal for a EU Directive: “Soil health – protecting, sustainably managing and restoring EU soils”

Soils are crucial for food, nature and our economy and deserve the same level of protection as water, air or the marine environment. The aim of the Soil Health Law proposal announced in the EU soil strategy for 2030 is to:
– specify the conditions for a healthy soil
– determine options for monitoring soil, and
– lay out rules conducive to sustainable soil use and restoration.
