L’INRAE a conduit une étude, centrée sur la France métropolitaine, visant à estimer le potentiel de stockage de carbone des sols agricoles et forestiers et, in fine, à mesurer la contribution potentielle de ce levier à l’objectif de réduction des émissions nettes de gaz à effet de serre.

«Observations on Agro-Ecology after the Cyclone Idai» – 2019 – John Wilson
March 24, 2019: Important reflections from Zimbabwe after the cyclone by John Wilson - John Wilson is a Zimbabwean working as a freerange facilitator in East and Southern Africa with community based organisations, national NGOs, groups and also at times with regional or continental networks. This note to some of his partners and farmers in the region reflects on the horrors in the aftermath of Cyclone Idai and raises very important questions and concerns regarding lessons learned about agroecology, forest cover, and nature-based water management, and the role of "evidence based practices" in this context.

Les perceptions et pratiques des agriculteurs sont au cœur de l'action pour la séquestration du carbone dans les sols agricoles, c'est l'une des conclusions des chercheurs et acteurs de terrain réunis à Sète en novembre 2018 autour de l’initiative "4 pour 1000 : les sols pour la sécurité alimentaire et le climat". Ce film livre le témoignage d'un agriculteur: Mathieu Yon interpelle son entourage, la recherche et les décideurs, à propos du dérèglement climatique auquel il fait face, du sol qu'il travaille à rendre plus fertile et des pratiques qu'il tente de mettre en place en "bonne intelligence avec le milieu".

«Opportunities for soil sustainability in Europe» – 2018 – EASAC
In this report, launched on 26 September 2018, the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC), which represents the national science academies of the EU, Norway, and Switzerland, says its latest synthesis reveals that policy-makers need to grasp opportunities to safeguard Europe’s soils and ensure their sustainability. Back in 2014, insufficient support among Member States obliged the European Commission to withdraw proposals for a Soils Directive and Europe still lacks appropriate benchmarks for soils’ sustainability and needs to improve compatibility between different national monitoring systems. In recent comments, Elisabeth Köstinger from the Austrian Presidency of the EU discussed the importance of protecting soils; however, concerted action from Member States remains to be seen.
