The Scientific and Technical Committee of the international “4 per 1000” Initiative has carried out a scientific review for an important document produced by the Global Soil Partnership (GSP – FAO): “GSOC MRV Protocol : A protocol for Measuring, Monitoring, Reporting and Verifying Soil Organic Carbon in Agricultural Landscapes” (for more information click here).
The Global Soil Partnership develops the “SOILS4NUTRITION Project: Sustainable Soil Management for Healthy Food“. The SGP SOILS4NUTRITION project is currently working towards nutrition-sensitive agriculture in two regions: Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.

Increasing attention is being paid to the importance of biodiversity for food security and nutrition, especially above-ground biodiversity such as plants and animals. However, less attention is being paid to the biodiversity beneath our feet, the biodiversity of soils, which drives many processes that produce food or purify soil and water.
The report “State of knowledge of soil biodiversity – Status, challenges and potentialities” is the result of an inclusive process involving more than 300 scientists from around the world under the auspices of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, and the European Commission.
It presents in a concise manner the state of knowledge on soil biodiversity, the threats to soil biodiversity, and the solutions that soil biodiversity can provide to problems in different areas.
The Global Soil Partnership also produced an introductory video on soil biodiversity in June 2020: 3Keep the soil alive, protect soil biodiversity!“.
