The Scientific and Technical Committee of the "4 per 1000"
The international “4 per 1000” Initiative has set up a strong Scientific and Technical Committee to guide its actions on a scientific level with 14 renowned experts. The Scientific and Technical Committee (STC) was set up on 17 November 2016 in order to give direction to the research programme, provide technical advice to field projects and define a project evaluation framework and monitoring indicators.
The members of the STC are intuitu personae, not representing their working structure, appointed for their competences. They apply spontaneously upon call by the Executive Secretariat. The selection of candidates for appointment is carried out by a specific independent selection committee.
It is a multidisciplinary group, with a balanced composition with regard to geographical origin and gender, and each member is required to make a regular declaration of interests. The STC meets several times a year to:
- Provide scientific and technical advice on field projects, actions and programmes
- Monitor the implementation of the guidelines of the international research and scientific cooperation programme which it has drawn up.
- Apply the criteria and indicators based on the principles and objectives of the International “4 per 1000” Initiative, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals, as part of a process of evaluation of projects and actions. This framework was developed by the STC.
- Deal with any cross-cutting issuewithin its scientific remit.
