The international « 4 per 1000 » Initiative warmly congratulates Dr. Cornelia Rumpel on being awarded the prestigious IUSS von Liebig Award at the 23rd World Congress of Soil Science, in Nanjing.
This well-deserved distinction recognizes more than two decades of pioneering research on soil organic matter, terrestrial biogeochemical cycles and carbon dynamics. Through her work across temperate and tropical ecosystems, Dr. Rumpel has significantly advanced our understanding of how soils contribute to climate regulation, ecosystem functioning and sustainable land management.
As Research Director at CNRS and a driving force behind the Paris Soil organic matter research Group (PSG), she has fostered scientific collaboration and innovation in the field of soil organic matter, helping to bridge disciplines and strengthen international research efforts.
Dr. Rumpel has also made an invaluable contribution to the « 4 per 1000 » Initiative. As a member of the Scientific and Technical Committee from 2016 to 2023, including four years as its Chair, she played a key role in strengthening the Initiative’s scientific foundations and shaping its strategic direction during its formative years.
